The World has finally moved very fast towards an international trading system after a serious thought and planned action on the part of the international community. This is, however, the result of a long drawn process of the formulation of ideas and strategies. The culmination was the finalization of the Uruguay Round Agreement of the GATT/WTO, which has been described as a momentous event in the economic history of the world. The WTO is now recognized as the most influential legal institution governing the international trade. A decade of its existence and working has contributed to the immense economic growth all over the world, especially in the developing countries. In the present scenario, 148 countries are governed in their economic activities by the WTO Agreement and their implications as international and domestic level as it has become the legitimate umpire of international trade.
The book contains 16 chapters covering almost all the areas of WTO Agreements adopted at the end of Uruguay Round of negotiations in 1995. However, this is by no means comprehensive in its coverage but just an attempt to present an overview of all issues and the working of WTO during the last 10 years. We hope this work prove useful to policy makers, various stakeholders including industry, scholars and the other who are interested in the theme.
