Dr. Kailash Rai
Taxation Laws
ISBN: 978-93-80231-35-8
It is a matter of pleasure for me to present the Seventh Edition of the book, "Taxation Laws" in the hands of the readers. It has provided me an opportunity to revise the book and bring it up-to-date. Since its last edition, the Income Tax Act and Wealth Tax Act have undergone a number of amendments. The whole text has been thoroughly revised in the light of the statutory amendments and the recent judicial decisions. The important amendments made by the Taxation Laws (amendment) Act, 2006 and the Finance Act, 2007 w.e.f. 01.04.2007 or a date falling in the year of 2007 have been included in this edition of the book.
The selective method has been adopted in citation of the reported decisions. On many issues the law is not well settled. On such issues conflicting views have been summarized and an attempt has been made to derive a conclusion as to the present position of law.
The important provisions of the Income Tax Act and Wealth Tax Act have been stated and explained in the light of the recent judicial decisions. In the selection of the statutory provisions and the judicial decisions, the author has exercised his full descretion. Whaterver materials have been considered by the author relevant for the students preparing the paper have been included in the book.

Judicial ingenuity and creativity leads to the growth of Law, particularly Constitutional Law.
Indian Constitution is a controlled Constitution. Under a controlled Constitution, it is said, the principles of checks and balances have an important role to play. However, the Courts are held to be duty bound to uphold constitutional values and enforce constitutional limitations. In so doing landmark judgments have been pronounced by the Hon'ble Courts, since the publication of the last edition of this book.
